Find all the fish hiding among the flowers.
At the New Horizons youth shelter on Third and Cedar, Henry created a mural focused on friendship, diversity, and hope. After meeting with the shelter staff to understand their values — including themes of release and freedom — he developed a design using playful metaphors: a turtle and a hare walking together, symbolizing different paces of life coming together in friendship.
The lower eight feet of the mural are filled with colorful flowers, designed to make it easier to repair any graffiti damage. Henry also added small, playful elements like fish over time.
Painted in soft pastels like lilacs and yellows, the mural was intended to transform the heavy atmosphere of the area — often troubled by drug use and other challenges — into one of brightness, safety, and welcome for homeless youth. The project replaced an outdated and inappropriate mural, taking about four days to complete with the help of another artist and a lift.
